I’ve started this blog because whenever there’s a chance someone might read something we write, it encourages us to better clarify our thoughts and to work harder on expressing our ideas in the best possible way. I don’t really expect anyone to read it but I may from time to time send someone a link to a particular post if it proves valuable to them. The main role of this blog is to allow me to think about and articulate ideas, or explain projects I’m working on in a public forum which, I hope, adds the extra level of pressure that will positively impact what I publish.
When blogs were first being pushed into education with both teachers and students one of the main ideas behind educational blogging was that it gave students a public platform where they could share their work and get feedback. Publishing to the world provides students with more incentive to produce higher-quality work. The world has moved on since blogs first appeared with the rise of social media platforms but they aren’t the type of platforms that appeal to me. I believe schools should be (re-)embracing the idea of blogging, and ownership of work, and therefore it makes sense that I do the same.
The majority of the content here will be about the thing I spend most of my time doing – digital learning. This might cover how I see technology helping us to learn as individuals and how to better communicate ideas and knowledge. There may be other more personal topics that come up too.
